Section C: Duties and Responsibilities
Systems Testing:

The planning, design and execution of tests to ensure that new and amended programs function as specified and in accordance with agreed standards, and that existing software with which the programs interface performs as intended.(2)
• Create complex test plans using agreed methods and standards.

• Interprets and executes complex test plans using agreed methods and standards.

• Documents test failures and successes compared with pre-defined criteria, in accordance with agreed standards.

• Uses normal operating facilities, diagnostic tools, technical manuals, test plans and systems documentation to identify, diagnose and report on system errors.

• Reviews test results and modify tests if necessary. Produces reports on system quality and metrics on test cases.

• Produces test plans of varying complexity (with expected results) to be executed by self and other staff. Produces plans to test the effect of the new and changed programs on existing systems.

Documentation / Technical Authoring

The planning, design, preparation and production of documentary items in paper or electronic form to support the use and maintenance of information systems. (2)
• Acquires information about information systems by handling actual products and reading technical specifications. Determines the documentation needs.

• Creates drafts for review of items for which individual document plans exists.

• Organises reviews of draft material. Consolidates comments from reviews (technical, editorial, commercial) and prepares further drafts as necessary. Organises final review and testing of each documentary item.

Business Analysis

The methodical investigation, analysis and documentation of all or part of a business in terms of business functions and processes, and the information they use. The definition of requirements for improving any aspect of the processes and systems. The creation of viable specifications in preparation for the construction of information systems.(2)
• Works with colleagues and clients/users to investigate and model business functions, processes, information flows and data structures, using methodical and consistent techniques.

• Works with colleagues and clients/users to investigate operational requirements and problems, seeking effective business solutions through improvements in information systems, data management, processes / procedures, organisation and equipment.
